New VertiCool Aurora Vertical Air Conditioner Exceeds EISA Requirements
United CoolAir Corporation has just announced the release of its newest in a series of higher efficiency air conditioning systems. The VertiCool Aurora is a self-contained vertical comfort system designed to deliver high-efficiency cooling and meet the latest government energy requirements.
The VertiCool Aurora is available sizes ranging from three through 35 tons using air cooled and chilled water condensing sections. Engineered for use with R-410a refrigerant, the Aurora exceeds the energy efficiency requirements of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA) by up to 30%. The line is expected to expand later this year with the introduction of water-cooled and water-source heat pump versions.
Great Choice for Difficult Retrofit Installations
United CoolAir plans to market the Aurora for new construction, retrofit and replacement applications. Rod Beever, Vice President Sales and Marketing for the company says the real utility of the product falls in the retrofit area. “The splittable feature helps to get the units into facilities for renovation projects or to replace older existing units. Multiple air path configurations make it easier to adapt the unit without extensive alterations.” Beever also notes the units have belt-drive blowers with an ESP of 1”, thermal and acoustically insulated cabinets and tooled access to control box while unit is operational. It also includes a stainless steel drain pan to meet IAQ requirements and high-efficiency scroll compressors.
Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA)
Single package vertical air conditioners typically cannot meet the standards for regular split or packaged equipment because their physical size. And since these systems are applied in space constrained commercial situations, larger units would place a “disproportionate burden” on the consumer. The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 amended Section 340 of the Energy Policy and Conservation Act (42 U.S.C. 6311) by limiting the EER values on vertical single package style units from 13.0 to 8.6 through 9.0, depending on the rated BTUH. The Aurora not only meets these new standards, they exceed them by up to 30% making it possible for the unit to qualify for LEED points under the Innovation category.
